CANADA ONLY due to CFIA export restrictions. Yellow fruited cherry plum. Delicious freestone 3cm sized fruits festooned these feral trees. It was covered in heavenly sweetly scented flowers in March making it easy to spot. This summer we were awarded with a bounty. Trees do have a touch of black knot, but considering they receive no care, they're doing amazingly well. Small leaves. Rounded form no more than 10m tall and just as wide. Pick fruits when they start turning yellow as they don't stick to the tree when ripe. Does very well on forest edges and along the beach front.

Stunning multi-stemmed tree peony species with deep true red flowers. Sweetly scented. Leaves are reddish to bronze for the first month during and after unfurling then become a lovely green. Most of specimens of this species have very finely dissected leaves, clearly standing out from the other tree peonies including its yellow flowering kin, P. lutea ludlowii. Easy to grow. Root resembles a parsnip with the branches coming from the crown. Strong vigorous grower. Drought tolerant when established. Mature plants reach 2 meters in height and spread.

One of the last magnolias to bloom in spring, its incredibly sweet fragrant creamy white cup shaped flowers can reach 30cm across, far out sizing M. grandiflora. This hardy species looks deceptively tropical with its massive mid green leaves which have a silvery white reverse. A medium sized tree reaching 10m in height with near equal spread. Being relatively thin for their size, the delicate leaves can be damaged in strong winds so its best to seat the tree in sheltered sites. Wide spreading branches make it an ideal shade tree. Its been known to bloom at a very young age (3 years is one quote).

A sweet little dwarf rhododendron introduced to the gardening world in 1981, and still rare in cultivation.  Fairly large flowers in April can clothe the plant in pink.  Spiky fuzz on the densely clustered stems add interest once the blooms are gone.  Will be wider than tall making it less prone to break under a snow load.  Slow growing...will reach 50 cm tall and 1 meter wide over time.

Also known as Houpu magnolia,an exotic Chinese subspecies of M. officinalis. What makes it special is the apical notch at the tips of its large obovate leaves giving the leaves a bi-lobed shape characteristic. In May-June, antique ivory coloured 30 cm diameter sweetly scented flowers appear in abundance. Grows very quickly (1m/year) and blooms at a very young age (5-7 years). Straight trunked tree reaching an average height of 15 meters, but the odd larger specimen is known in botanical gardens. Almost non-existent in the wild due to over harvesting of its prized medicinal bark used in TCM.

Gorgeous white three petaled flowers gradually transition from white to pink to wine purple. Most of our plants are sweetly fragrant (like plum blossoms). Lovely mat rich green leaves. Co-evolved with our wacky climate of drenched winters and tolerant of summer drought. Tubers usually sit deeply when established, but very shallow as seedlings. Will spread when happy.
